something made you cry and you screamed so loud,
when your tears streamed down and you fell on your knees,
when those last few words came hurling out,
when I stood my ground instead of turning to leave,
… that wasn’t me.
if you see someone facing the oncoming storm,
… that’ll be me.
if you see some toes wiggling deep in the sand,
… that’ll be me.
when the wings of self love fly high through the air,
… that’ll be me.
you got so mad with 10,000 rhymes,
did the words on the page embarrass you,
did someone ask too often for a minute of time,
did she steal your wish because she had so few,
… that wasn’t me.
on a star someone sits with all the wishes come true,
… that’ll be me.
when your page fills with words so easily,
… that’ll be me.
on the day the fog lifts and a hand is reaching for you,
… that’ll be me.
if I said “see me” more often than I should,
if I broke you down beyond repair,
if I tried too hard because I thought I could,
if that poem I wrote was as transparent as air,
… that wasn’t me.
that person still standing when the storm dies down,
… that will be me.
… that will be me.
Looking at the Tagged and Posted in (above) my eyes read “sain” and “motherhood” as “sainthood”! I like how this poems reflects both the good and not-so-good sides of a person. But I think when all is said and done, you are the sum of all these things, good and bad. Acknowledging that’s not how you want to be seen is the first step in not being that way.
Great, as usual, π Moskowitz
thank you moskie!
We all have the good, the bad, and the ugly in us… it’s which one we reveal the most, i think, that matters.
I recognize the picture as one of Becky’s originals. I recognize it as “you”. π
That made me smile. I can’t wait for summer when I have time to create some more stuff. π
“that’ll be me”, now, that’s a very good muse, my dear…
Thank you! π
nice…so many facettes….the good, the bad, the unexplained, the unexpected, that what we want others to see and what we want to hide…nicely penned becky
Thank you Claudia. I think this was my ode to multiple personalities. π
with in each of us resides both the good and the other…i wont call it bad, its just another side and maybe one we dont like seen but that does not make it any less real…
Yes… that’s exactly true. We’re all such complicated beings, in hopes that the good outnumbers the bad within ourselves.
Thank you!
Becky, I have no children, but you gave me such a taste of how it must be. You utilize repetition so well in this one.
Thank you so much, motherhood is great and awful and great some more. π
I love the way you write Becky, with the words just spilling out(seemingly) but really having all kinds of deliberate order that makes them hook you in and think about them. This is good writing indeed.
Ahh — thank you so much. This is so nice and encouraging for you to say. I’m honored you’re here.
Feels very much like the lyrics to a song. I would definitely want to hear this set to a musical score.
You know… I was thinking about a song kind of thing when it was rolling around my brain. Too bad I’m not that musically inclined.
Thank you!
It’s a wonderful thing to find such attitude combined with charm and self-awareness. Pulling it all together with such powerful rhythm, like a chant of clarity in morning light, your poem is a wonderful wake up call for those who may have lost their confidence and optimism.
Wow — this is awesome. Thank you, I’m speechless.
“on the day the fog lifts and a hand is reaching for you,
β¦ thatβll be me”.
I love the way you create the rythm between what you are and what you aren’t. Wonderful!!
Thank you! I like to think about it is at what we are and what we could and should be. π
I love this — very inspirational, a perferct perk-me-up for the downtrodden.
Thank you — I love this comment.
unconditional love is so hard to put into words, but you have done a fabulous job with that here. and love is better than perfection, always.
Yes, love isn’t perfect but it is so good. Thank you Kelly.
Another wonderful post Becky. It made me cry and then it made me smile. Loving even when everything seems to be going south is indeed the mark of a very special and strong woman. Be blessed.

Thank you! I’m so humbled by your response. Thank you so much.
the repetition is fun and engaging. it’s like a drum beat, a powerful promise to yourself and the cosmos that rings so true. delightful!
Thank you saying such nice things!
A brave woman ..is that you :).Well, I liked the positiveness and the fun aspect of your poem
Aww — thank you so much. Positive and fun are rarely used to describe my poems so this is very nice!
