the trouble with landmines,
you constantly look where your feet are planted,
the direction your toes are pointing,
you’ve navigated these fields before.
they try to stay hidden,
but your eyes are wide now,
you see them underneath the dandelions and the clover.
the trouble with landmines,
you pause just to hear the explosion,
quieting your breath to hear the snap of the trigger,
you brace for the blast.
blocking your movement in all directions,
zigging here but zagging there,
never a straight line.
the trouble with landmines,
you focus on the boom and not on your breath.
defuse them with a perfectly placed pause.
you can sit and wait,
you can run unafraid,
you can do both,
you should do both,
to avoid the trouble with landmines.
oy, kinda scary as well when you cant see them until you hear the click of that step and know if you dont defuse them you just took your last step….you should do both…smiles….will think on that one…
Thank you Brian. Doing both but recognizing when to do what — that’s the key. 🙂
Powerful piece.
Thank you Kathryn.
I liked this very much – there are landmines everywhere, especially in our consciousness. Moving forward- completely alive and aware- might be the only solution, but still … that voice in the back of my head demands attention. Well written – curious about your month’s worth of writing…. – Mosk
Thank you Mosk!
silly me, at first i thought you meant do both at the same time. {smile} yes, knowing when to do what can be difficult sometimes. great write, b! *HUGS*
